The Spanish radio Cadena SER reported that after Christmas, Rafa Nadal, who has been off the court since January due to an injury and hip surgery, is to go to Australia, where he will start in the Australian Open in January. He is expected to take part in a “warm-up” tournament before then.

Rafael Nadal has been out of the tour since January 2023. The 37-year-old Spaniard suffered an injury during the Grand Slam Australian Open. He had to undergo hip arthroscopy, which resulted in an almost year-long break and the final end of the season. During rehabilitation, he announced that 2024 would probably be the last year in his professional career. In mid-November, the Spaniard confirmed that he could return to the game and would soon announce in which tournament he would play for the first time after his return. Now the Spanish media reveal more details.

Spanish radio Cadena SER reported that after Christmas, Rafa is expected to go to Australia, where he will intensify preparations for his return. Before the start of the Australian Open, he is scheduled to play in one tournament in Australia. If all goes well, he will compete in the Australian Open. Nadal’s participation in the warm-up tournament will be a key step in regaining match fitness and confidence and getting back into competitive mode.

Additionally, sources say that Nadal will visit his academy in Kuwait, where he will train some to increase his chances of participating in the tournament preceding the Australian Open and in the Australian Open itself. After his stay in Kuwait, Nadal will return to Majorca for a while before embarking on the final leg of his journey back to Australia.
