It is quite possible that none of Ruben Amorim’s former players at Sporting will end up with him at Old Trafford. – The Manchester United manager, who is now hoping that things are about to turn around, was clear when he left the Portuguese club in November last year that he would at least wait until the summer to fish out his old players.

At the top of most wish lists of Sporting players is Swedish goal machine Viktor Gyökeres, but not far below Ruben Amorim’s favourite Geovany Quenda. – Sporting confirm in a press release that both 17-year-old right winger Geovany Quenda and 20-year-old Denfensive midfielder Dario Essugo have been sold to Chelsea for a huge sum.

The total package comes to just over 74.4 million euros. Of that amount, Chelsea will pay just over 52.1 million euros for Quenda. (€1.3 million of that amount is linked to performance-related bonuses.)

Quenda will only join the London club in the summer of 2026 after another season at Sporting, the Portuguese club writes further. Essugo therefore costs close to €22.3 million to buy for Chelsea. He, who is currently on loan from Sporting to Las Palmas, will join Chelsea this summer.

The 17-year-old promising talent has previously been “close to guaranteed” to Manchester United, but he has now chosen league rivals Chelsea. The Athletic has previously stated that Quenda is signing for seven plus one year at Chelsea.

Quenda turns 18 at the end of April and has scored two goals plus eight assists in 44 appearances for Sporting this season.

As for defensive midfielder Essugo, CNN Portugal has previously reported that he is also signing a seven-year contract with Chelsea.

Essugo has played 17 La Liga games for Las Palmas, who are struggling in 19th place in the table, scoring one goal.
