The Swedish striker is reportedly set to sign for Arsenal in the coming days.

Sporting have asked to include four specific clauses in the deal for Viktor Gyökeres, but Arsenal are not happy with some of the terms that are now on the table.

Ever since the transfer window opened at the beginning of June, Arsenal’s interest in signing a new striker has been evident, with Sporting star Gyökeres believed to be their main target.

The Swedish international has been linked with several of the biggest clubs in Europe in recent weeks, but recent reports suggest that Arsenal have won the battle for his signature, with a deal for the transfer believed to be imminent.

While the deal is likely to be finalized in the coming days, there are still several factors holding back negotiations between Sporting and Arsenal, including the clauses to be included in the deal.

Portuguese newspaper Record writes that Sporting asked for four specific clauses in the deal for Gyökeres, with each clause providing €2.5 million, for a total of €10 million if all four are achieved.

The first clause will be activated after Gyökeres’ first 20 games in England, with a new €2.5 million clause triggered if the Swedish international completes another 20-game season.

Qualification for the Champions League will give Sporting one of the four clauses, while the last clause depends on Gyökeres playing another 20 games in his second season.

While it is assumed that Arsenal are happy with each of these clauses individually, they believe that they are too easy to achieve and argue that one of them should be linked to a more ambitious goal.

The Gunners are willing to pay €7.5 million in easily achievable bonus clauses, but are currently in talks with Sporting about the final €2.5 million. Once this is clarified, the deal will be completed quickly.

How much will Arsenal pay for Viktor Gyökeres?

Although the exact sum Arsenal will pay for the 27-year-old is not yet known, it is widely believed that it will be around €63.5 million plus an additional €10 million in bonuses.

If this deal goes through, Sporting will have to set aside €4.35 million of the transfer fee of Gyökeres’ former club, Coventry City, after they included a 10% resale clause when they sold him in 2023.
