When Enzo Maresco entered the scene as Chelsea manager in the summer, it was a blissful chaos of a squad. Over 40 players, where it seemed like no one quite knew who was going to be sold and kept. The former Leicester manager was crystal clear from the start that the squad needed to be trimmed, while also naming players he encouraged to change clubs. Six months later, Maresca has convinced in the Premier League and has identified another player he doesn’t need.
This summer, the Blues spent €14 million to sign 21-year-old Renato Veiga from FC Basel. The Portuguese was offered a contract until 2031, so there should be little doubt that this was a long-term project. The left-back has made 18 appearances in a Chelsea shirt, but clearly hasn’t convinced Maresca.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are already ready to sell Veiga, six months after signing a seven-month contract. The English media reports Borussia Dortmund are interested, but that a sale will only be relevant if a bid of around £29 million is made.
Signs for 14 million, demands 35 million euros six months later. Sounds like a bit too optimistic.
