Fiorentina are in 19th place in the Serie A table, with just four points after the first ten games of the season.

The Tuscan team is yet to win a game in the league and suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Lecce on Sunday.

Stefano Pioli refused to resign after the game and confirmed his position in a long phone call with Fiorentina directors hours after the latest defeat.

Sources close to the matter say that Pioli showed openness to changing the terms of his current three-year contract with Fiorentina, but insisted that he would not resign.

Fiorentina asked him to resign, but Pioli’s refusal means the club must take the next step.

Fiorentina are back on the pitch on Thursday against Mainz in the Conference League. Primavera (U20) coach Galloppa is seen as a possible candidate to replace Pioli in the short term.

Fiorentina have also made contact with Vanoli, but negotiations are currently deadlocked.

Raffaele Palladino’s return is also a possibility, while Daniele De Rossi has been offered, but it seems like an unattainable possibility at this stage.
