We loved Gerrard as a player, the same as the coach of Glasgow Rangers where the Liverpool legend created a brief change of power in Scottish football. Then came the promising start as Aston Villa manager, the less promising start to the first full season. Then the sacking and the inexplicable exit of 2023 to Saudi Arabian football. It started with a weak season, which is now followed by an even weaker one.

After ten games, the club stands with eleven points, coach Gerrard had to endure being booed out of the stadium by his own supporters. Now the Englishman will get help.

Michael Beale has a background as an academy coach at Liverpool (2003-17) and Chelsea, has managed Queen Park Rangers, Rangers and Sunderland. Gerrard knows Beale particularly well after the 44-year-old was Gerrard’s assistant at both Rangers and Aston Villa. A total of 220 games have been played by the duo together on the sidelines.

The club announced on Wednesday that Beale has been brought in as an assistant to Gerrard once again. Then we will see if this is enough for Gerrard to keep his job.
