Something is still going on with Steven Gerrard. We loved the Englishman who plays, the same as coach of Glasgow Rangers, the first half of the season for Aston Villa. Then the Liverpool legend disappeared from Villa Park. Still a candidate to replace Jürgen Klopp, Stevie made the catastrophically bad choice to gravitate to Saudi Arabian money bins outside the UEFA region. After this, Gerrard was completely out of the picture at Liverpool. It also didn’t help that the success never came in the “Ronaldo League”. Now, however, it seems that something may be going on.

Gerrard has been linked with the Liverpool job this month, especially after Slot and Salah fell out at the weekend, as well as tough losses and draws in a row (against Inter Milan!). Those who follow Liverpool’s activity on Instagram have also noticed that videos reminiscing about football warrior Steven Gerrard have been more frequent than usual.

Jamie Carragher lashed out at Salah on Sky Sports, calling the Liverpool star’s comments after the Leeds game a “disgrace”. Gerrard has a completely different approach, an approach that gives us the feeling that it is a Liverpool manager talking.

Gerrard commented on Salah’s outburst on TNT Sports:

“He’s obviously very upset that he’s not playing, which I respect. He doesn’t want to sit out of the team, which I respect. The couple of lines about throwing people under the bus are wrong. He has to turn away from it a bit. He has to take it up with the manager.”

“This requires Virgil van Dijk to say: ‘How do we arrange this for the benefit of not the club or the team, but the fans?'” I’ve seen this, and I’ve experienced it. I experienced it with [Luis] Suarez when he fell out with Brendan [Rodgers]. I’ve seen it all. I’ve been there myself from a personal point of view.”

“I made the Salah statement in 30 seconds against [Manchester] United when I was sent off. So no one is perfect. We have alllost our heads as players. We’ve all done emotional things, and I know that when all of this calms down, Mo will say, “I shouldn’t have said it, maybe I shouldn’t have said it, I was a little emotional, I was a little rushed. But at the end of the day, Liverpool FC needs Mo Salah, back to playing well, back to scoring goals, because he is the best player, the best scorer, and he wants to help them out of this…”, says Gerrard.

Now, of course, Gerrard is freer to comment on the matter than Arne Slot, but the Dutchman’s summary of the case on Tuesday gives everything but a reassurance that the coach is helping to defuse the conflict: “You say that everyone makes mistakes in life, so the first question is whether the player himself also thinks he made a mistake?, I haven’t said that I don’t want to talk to him. And the next question is whether the initiative should come from me or from him. That’s another question that needs to be answered,” the Liverpool coach said after the win in Milan, according to ESPN.
