Roma have been favourites to sign Zirkzee on loan with an option to buy, the Dutchman still has a high star in Serie A from the Bologna era. Now Roma’s sporting director reports that the United management has stepped the brakes.

“Right now, United have stopped all negotiations after the change of coach. I doubt that they will change their minds,” says Roma’s Frederic Massara.

This could either mean a new opportunity for Zirkzee, or simply “sacrificed” in Man United’s situation of uncertainty.
