Just over a month ago, 71-year-old Scottish manager Stuart Baxter was brought in to save Boavista’s place in the Primeira-Liga. Baxter, who has a past in Lyn and several Nordic clubs, does not succeed.

On Saturday, it became clear that he did not succeed in turning the season around.
Boavista lost 1-4 away to Arouca. A win could at best have been enough for a qualification spot – if AVS Futebol SAD or Farense had also lost – but that didn’t happen. Now it is clear that the club is relegated from the Portuguese top division.
Boavista, which is the country’s most successful club after the big three – Benfica, Porto and Sporting – signed a 1.5-year contract with Baxter in April.
Arouca took the lead after just seven minutes and then extended not just one, two, but three times. Boavista reduced through Robert Bozenik, but didn’t get any closer than that.

The result means that the team ends up in last place in the table – and that Baxter’s short stay ends in disappointment.
The coach’s future at the club is uncertain.
