West Ham supporters have become well accustomed to success. Then David Moyes left the club, and suddenly the London club finds itself in a relegation mud that the supporters thought was a closed chapter. Now coach Nuno Santo warns that there is something fundamentally wrong that needs to be corrected.
When David Moyes took over the reins at West Ham in the 2017/18 season, he saved the club from certain relegation. Then the Scot, who was weighed too lightly at Man Utd, made sure to build a team machine that asserted itself in the Premier League – and out in Europe. Record points (65) in the top division in 2020/21 and a semi-final place in the UEFA Europa League in 2021/22, then title in the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022–23, West Ham’s first major trophy in 43 years. Moyes and West Ham were done with each other in 2024. Then came the big fall.

Christmas Lopetegui, Graham Potter, from the end of last month Nuno Santo. On Monday, the Brentford players took the bus to the London Stadium, after the game the West Ham supporters asked in despair: What the f… Why?!
Because with a 0-2 loss against Brentford, West Ham have lost five home games in the Premier League. So bad is it, that in a historical context, the club has not sunk so deep since 1931 in the top division on the ball island.
On Friday, West Ham dug even deeper. With a 2-1 loss to Leeds, the club suffered their seventh defeat of the season (4 points in 9 games) to the Hammers’ worst start to the season in 52 years!
Coach Nuno Santo does not hold back when explaining the situation to the supporters.
-Unfortunately, there are many internal problems in our club. It is important that we do not hide behind it. Everyone has to wake up and do so much more to be in the right position,” Santo said.
Who also admits he missed against Leeds.
-We don’t take care of the different defensive situations at all, and it seemed like we lacked a striker to hold on to the ball. Maybe it wasn’t the best decision of mine. Such mistakes are unacceptable in the Premier League, says Santo.
