Arsenal are said to have come a long way in their plans to hijack what initially looked like a transfer to Manchester United, but which Sportbible believes is a transfer to Manchester City instead.
Transfer journalist David Ornstein follows up by reporting that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is doing what he can to prevent Manchester City from completing their fourth January signing.
Manchester City have already completed deals to sign Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov for a combined sum of well over €140 million in January. Their planned fourth transfer of the window may not be what they had hoped.
The 18-year-old midfielder Sverre Halseth Nypan will travel to Manchester to talk to the club about a potential move this month. While Ornstein reports that Arsenal have now opened discussions with Nypan’s current club, Rosenborg.
He claims that talks are already “progressing” for the midfielder, but that no deal has yet been reached.
Manchester City’s proposal is said to involve a potential loan move to Girona (who have the same owners) for the rest of the season. While Arsenal want to sign Nypan to play in their first team immediately.
Manchester United faced Nypan and Rosenborg in a friendly last summer, while Erik ten Hag was still manager. -Soon after that came rumours of a move to Old Trafford, rumours that became stronger after Nypan was quickly linked with signing the midfielder admitted that he had ‘always been a Manchester United fan’.
The English press has so far “priced Nypan at £10 million, justifying it by saying that there are only 18 months left on his contract. – We think it will be more than that.
