Things are still boiling at Middlesbrough. Rob Edwards was in his fifth month as manager, second in the table after 15 games showed course for promotion to the Premier League. Then came Wolverhampton, offered the 42-year-old direct Premier League games and brought Edwards to Molineux. Now Boro are turning to Allsvenskan for the coach who can lead the club on a continued course towards promotion.

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has warned Rob Edwards not to even think about trying to sign Boro players in the January transfer window, according to Molineux News’ sources, Gibson intends to refuse any future business with Edwards’ Wolves. The players will be kept in the club for Kim Hellberg.

Not heard of the coach, you say? Perhaps not so strange, the former Dagsberg IF player has spent the first part of his coaching career leading Kimstad GoIF, Kuddby IF, IF Sylvia and IFK Värnämo. Since 2024, the young coach (37) has led Hammarby with great success.

Swansea have “found” the coach, reportedly making Hellberg their top priority for the vacant coaching position in Wales. The parties are even said to have had conversations where the personal terms of a potential deal were discussed.

Boro, 16 places above in the Championship table, now intend to stop this. According to Swedish Expressen, Middlesborough have also set their sights on Hellberg. In fact, the parties are so far along in the process that an agreement can be signed as early as the start of the week, unless something unexpected happens.
