The latest rumour about Dutch manager Erik ten Hag is, in my opinion, the most sensible.

Manchester United, who sacked Erik ten Hag in October last year after what was until then the worst period in the club’s modern history, have amazingly managed to do even worse under the leadership of successor Ruben Amorim. It was as if all the players were running around like scared ghosts and only a shadow of what they were before, and in some cases of what they became after Old Trafford.

There have been a lot of job interviews along the way for Erik ten Hag, which for both Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen has become too expensive and too demanding in terms of both power and player resources.

Now he can return to Ajax, who must fit perfectly.

Ajax, who usually win the Eredivisie, landed in second place this season, after it became clear in the last league round that PSV win won Francesco Farioli left the Ajax coaching job in shame! (Well not really last season it was 5th place)

According to Sky Sports, Ten Hag has ended up on the list of candidates that the Dutch big club is considering.

If he gets the job, it will be a return to Amsterdam for Ten Hag. He led the club with great success from January 2018 to May 2022, when he took over Manchester United. Under his leadership, Ajax won three league championships and reached a sensational semi-final in the Champions League.

Earlier this year, he stated that he did not plan to accept any new coaching job until July. In the same interview, he expressed longing for Manchester United and reminisced about the golden years at Ajax – especially the clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League in 2019:

That team was perfect in every way – so much football intelligence, technical skills and team spirit. But above all, self-confidence and street glimpses. It was an incredible team and a fantastic time.

We put a big button on it being Ajax. – And now that the seasons are over, it doesn’t matter to wait until July.
