The first day of Skate America in Allen, Texas belonged to Ilia Malinin. The American impressed in the solo short program. He achieved the best result in the history of the competition.

The judges valued Malinin’s great performance at 104.06 points. The previous best result in the Skate America series was achieved in 2019 by Olympic champion Nathan Chen (102.71 points).

-I think it could have been my best performance so far in my career. I really got into the music, I was so focused that I didn’t know what was happening around me. Only at the end of the ride did I notice that people in the stands were going crazy- said Malinin, who is defending the title in Skate America.

Second place after the solo short program is taken by Frenchman Kevin Aymoz (97.34), and third is Sato Shun from Japan (91.61).
