There was great happiness at Old Trafford on Thursday night. Ruben Amorim marked it when he simply sat down on the bench, he realized the players were in full control of the game against Athletic Club. His screaming and waving were superfluous. Even Rasmus Højlund was in the right place at the right time to score, which we treat the young Dane to. Still, as Manchester United enter the transfer window, striker reinforcements are at the top of the list.

A bunch of strikers have been linked to Old Trafford, but one of the big fan favorites has to be said to be Ruben Amorim’s own favorite, “superbock” Viktor Gyokeres.

Former Everton director Keith Wyness uses his experience of the Premier League and his network to analyse English football, this week he was asked about United and the Swedish striker. Will it go the way of United, and can the club afford to meet the demand of up to 75 million euros?

“That’s a big number. The tie to Amorim seems quite important in this deal, but I think that if it were to be done, there would also be some sort of player swap involved,” Wyness told Football-Insider.

-I think it could be some money plus a player. Zirkzee, Højlund – they are a couple that can be sent the other way. It’s the financial replenishment they need to get this transaction done, player plus cash,” the former Everton boss continues.

Before he gives hope to United supporters.

-I think Amorim would be prepared to do that. He is obviously very good at assessing what Sporting want. Whether it’s a striker, a midfielder or a defender – I think it will be a player-plus-cash swap.

With and without Amorim, the Swede has scored a wild 52 goals in 49 games this season. Say no more.
