The 2025 summer transfer window is getting closer and closer.

In 2024, we saw several high-profile players switch clubs on a free transfer, including Kylian Mbappé, Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud. The summer of 2025 could be just as spectacular in terms of free transfers.

Big names on their way out

Liverpool legend Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed for Real Madrid. Originally a free transfer, Madrid paid a whopping €10 million to sign him a month earlier so he could participate in the Club World Cup.

Man City icon Kevin De Bruyne has announced that he is leaving the club after 10 fantastic years at the Etihad. He is most likely going to Naples. Ilkay Gündogan could also leave City.

Jorginho and Kieran Tierney have left Arsenal, who could also lose Thomas Partey.

Manchester United are expected to say goodbye to Victor Lindelöf, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans.

Real Madrid will release Luka Modrić and Lucas Vázquez.

In Germany, Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich) and Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen) have contracts expiring. Tah is going to Bayern, while Thomas Müller has confirmed that he is leaving Bayern after a brilliant career.

Eric Dier has announced that he will go to Monaco on a free transfer when his Bayern contract expires.

In Italy, Stefan de Vrij (Inter) could leave the club, but Inter have an option for an extension.

Roma and Germany legend Mats Hummels has said that he will retire after the season.

Jonathan David will leave Lille on a free transfer, while Alexandre Lacazette will leave Lyon.
