There are not many people in the world of football outside England who now look at Mason Greenwood other than the best winger on the market. The fact that a club is already willing to pay €75 million for the 23-year-old inside his first full season since January 2022 confirms this. For Manchester United, this could be “millions from heaven”.
15 goals in 24 games in a Marseille shirt have made the former Manchester United player one of the sharpest in Ligue 1. In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich has a tradition of taking the best players from the biggest rivals in Germany, PSG has a tradition of doing the same in French football. It is therefore not surprising that PSG have already started targeting Greenwood.
According to Spanish Fichajes and English talkSPORT, PSG and Barcelona are following Greenwood closely. The Spanish media claims PSG have already sent bids of around 75 million euros.
United reportedly secured a 50 percent extension clause when Marseille signed Greenwood last summer. If this is true, 37.5 million euros could tick into United’s account in this sale.
This is sales revenue that United desperately needs to be able to invest in reinforcements.
The question is whether Marseille is willing to give their biggest rival the top scorer. In any case, there will be a few active months ahead behind the scenes. Meanwhile, Greenwood does the job in front of the opposition’s goal, while United’s attacking line is content to play their way to opportunities.
