Liverpool were virtually tight in defence last Premier League season with just 41 conceded in 38 games. This while Arsenal have only conceded five goals. Arne Slot is working diligently to solve the challenge, in addition it is Ibrahima Konaté on an expiring contract who is interfering. In January, the focus is on a long-term solution.

Marc Guehi is still heavily linked to Liverpool, but the Reds are also aiming to bring Nico Schlotterbeck to Anfield.

The 25-year-old has been linked with Liverpool for the past month, Bayern Munich are working intensely to win this signing match. Florian Wirtz was lost to Liverpool, Nick Woltemade was lost to Newcastle, now the focus is on convincing the German international to stay in the Bundesliga.

According to Football-Insider’s sources, Liverpool are very interested in making the Dortmund player a long-term solution in central defence.

“Liverpool will definitely be in the race to try and sign him and bring him to England if they can. A top player like him, you might be able to get for a cheap buck next summer, especially if he enters the final year of his contract with Dortmund without any agreement on an extension. Liverpool may be able to get him for a much lower price than one would normally expect from a current German international as well, reports Football-Insider.

Konaté has been given an ultimatum to take an extension or be sold in January, which could open up a push towards Schlotterbeck. Empire of the Cop thinks signing the German is a no-brainer:

“If Schlotterbeck is genuinely interested in playing for Liverpool, and the Reds have a chance to sign him at a discounted price, they simply have to be convinced of a potential purchase of the Dortmund defender, who has just over 18 months left on his current contract. The 25-year-old’s underlying performance record is among the best of any centre-back in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year.
