Xabi Alonso, who will soon take over the helm of Real Madrid, politely asked for them to extend the deal with Luka Modrić and keep his commitment and experience for at least one more season.

That there will be big changes this summer is for sure, and many of those who come in will be in place before the Club World Cup starts in a month.

Luka Modrić with the standing he has will easily find a new club, it will not be as easy for others.

It has been a disappointing season for “Los Blancos”, who failed to win any national trophies. They lost La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de España to arch-enemy Barcelona. The only trophy Madrid won this season was the UEFA Super Cup back in August 2024. – A trophy that can best be compared to scratching out a new ticket.

As a result, big changes are expected for the Spanish giants this summer. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will leave the Bernabéu to take over as Brazil manager.

In terms of new players, it is rumored that Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen and Liverpool’s full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are close to a move to the Spanish capital.

But at the same time, a faithful club warrior is on his way out.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lucas Vázquez will leave Madrid in July.

He wrote on social media
: “BREAKING: Lucas Vázquez to leave Real Madrid in July, plans have been confirmed. After the FIFA Club World Cup, Lucas will leave the club ready for a new chapter as a free agent. Everything has been decided.”

Romano added:
“Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal will be Real Madrid’s right-backs in the 2025/2026 season.”

In addition to Vázquez, long-time midfielder Luka Modrić has also decided to leave the club.

Modrić wrote on Instagram:
“The time has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but that’s football – in life, everything has a beginning and an end. On Saturday I play my last game at the Santiago Bernabéu. Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a footballer and as a person. I am proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the greatest club in history. Even though after the Club World Cup I will no longer have this shirt on the pitch, I will always be a Madridista.”

Vázquez worked his way up through the youth department in Madrid before making his debut in the first team in 2015. He eventually became captain and has played a total of 399 games across all competitions, scoring 38 goals.

The Spaniard has also won five Champions League titles and four La Liga trophies, in addition to several other titles.

In recent days, Madrid have been linked with a transfer for Benfica full-back Álvaro Carreras.

Romano gave a brief update on the situation on social media:
“Álvaro Carreras wants to join Real Madrid and his plans have not changed. No bids or club talks yet, but it is understood that Real will make contact with Benfica after the Taça de Portugal final to strike a deal. Carreras has already agreed terms with Real, as @SrNaninho reported.”
