German giants Borussia Dortmund have bought time to find their new manager after sacking Nuri Sahin.
Sahin had to win yesterday’s Champions League match against Bologna and when that didn’t happen, it didn’t take many minutes before he was sacked. But he was far too expensive!
After Nuri Sahin was fired at Borussia Dortmund. In comes Mike Tullberg, who was recently relevant for Brann. The Bergen club finally hired Icelandic Freyr Alexandersson
Tullberg has worked as Dortmund’s U19 coach since 2020 and was linked to the then vacant Brann job earlier in January. However, he turned it down, to stay in Germany. – But this job will probably not last that long.
In Sahin’s farewell, sporting director Lars Ricken thanked the Turk for his efforts.
“We greatly appreciate Nuri Sahin and his work, and wished for a long collaboration. Until the very end, we had hoped that together we could reverse the sporting trend. However, after four defeats in a row, with only one win in the last nine games, and as the current tenth in the Bundesliga table, we have unfortunately lost faith that we can achieve our sporting goals with the current constellation.
“This decision hurts me personally as well, but it was no longer avoidable after the game in Bologna,” he continued.
“Unfortunately, we have not been able to meet the sporting ambitions of Borussia Dortmund this season. I wish this special club all the best,” says Sahin.
The yellow jerseys have struggled greatly after the New Year and stood with three straight losses in the league before Tuesday’s CL fiasco.
“We need wins. We need results. Now we have won once in nine games,” said Ricken, who would not answer whether the club still believes that Sahin can turn the situation around.
“I have a very trusting and good relationship with Nuri. He always has my support, but of course my statements stand,” he continued.
Dortmund are in 10th place in the Bundesliga and host Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Sahin took over as head coach of Dortmund in June after Edin Terzic resigned from the job. The Turk had previously worked as an assistant to Terzic, but had no experience as a head coach.
After the loss to Bologna, sporting director Ricken announced that the club’s management would meet on Wednesday to discuss the way forward.
