Martin Ødegaard was absolutely outstanding last season, leading Arsenal to two, three points from the Premier League title. This season, he would lead the Gunners all the way in. First came the injury to the Arsenal captain, fortunately back on the match scene in November after the team clearly did not do so well without the 26-year-old. But even with Ødegaard in charge, things won’t quite work out for Arsenal. At the end of February, English Goal wrote “Martin Odegaard, where are you?!”. This week, they received an answer.
Because in this week’s Champions League round, Martin Ødegaard was absolutely outstanding. The PSV players ran around at home, with no way to stop the Arsenal captain or the London club’s attacking machine. The Premier League club didn’t stop until it was 1-7 and “one training session” at the Emirates next week away from advancing in the Champions League.
The English media 90min was so impressed with the Norwegian’s management of the Arsenal team and performances, in the Champions League round’s selection of top 7 players, they placed Ødegaard as the best of the best!
Here is the list:
7. Vitinha (PSG)
6. Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal)
5. Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid)
4. Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
3. Wojciech Szczesny (Barcelona)
2. Alisson (Liverpool)
- Martin Ødegaard
“Martin Ødegaard has been accused of hiding in the middle of Arsenal’s devastating injury crisis, and the captain had gone four games without a goal or assist when the wheels fell off the Gunners’ Premier League title. But Ødegaard proved his worth on Wednesday. The captain scored twice and assisted. He was undeniably the Gunners’ standout player, floating across the grass in a characteristically graceful manner.”
We love it!
