There has been talk of Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving Real Madrid just months after joining from Liverpool. A source claims that the former Anfield star is not happy at the Estadio Bernabéu, which is also pretty obvious to those of us on the sidelines.

Trent Alexander-Arnold went from Liverpool to Madrid at the end of last season. Spanish publication AS, which has links to Real Madrid, reported as early as November 2025 that the right-back’s departure from Anfield was “considered a betrayal” by Liverpool fans. They were very disappointed that he turned down several offers of a new contract in order to remain part of Arne Slot’s team, and chose instead to go to the Estadio Bernabéu.

But things have not gone according to plan for Alexander-Arnold in Madrid. Injury problems and competition for a place in the starting line-up have limited the England international right-back to just 16 appearances for Los Blancos so far this season. In those games, he has recorded three assists.

The feeling of betrayal among Liverpool fans and in the administration at Anfield makes a return difficult. – However, the door for a return to the Premier League seems to be open.

The 27-year-old was on the sidelines between September and October with a thigh strain injury and is currently out of action. Alexander-Arnold strongly considered leaving Madrid while Xabi Alonso was manager. It was claimed by many that the Spaniard was not happy with the former Liverpool star.

This came after reports that Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in a deal for Alexander-Arnold in 2026.

Another source has now claimed that Alexander-Arnold “has become frustrated” at Real Madrid due to a “lack of clarity and communication” while recovering from injury.

The Touchline had the following headline earlier today: “EXCLUSIVE: There have been internal questions at Real Madrid regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role and long-term positioning.

“Sources say the club had outlined a clear sporting role and long-term plan, but Trent has become frustrated during his time on the sidelines and feels a lack of clarity and communication during his rehabilitation from injury.

“Trent is expected to return in February, and his response on the pitch will likely be key to whether the situation calms down.”

Real Madrid will NOT sell Trent Alexander-Arnold.
While you never know what might happen in the future, it’s hard to imagine Madrid selling Alexander-Arnold in the near future.

At Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold established himself as one of the world’s best right-backs. Just because the Englishman hasn’t had a brilliant start in Madrid doesn’t mean he’s doomed to fail.

Luka Modrić was a flop for Madrid in the early months of his career at the Estadio Bernabéu, but he eventually became a legend at the club.

Madrid signed Alexander-Arnold not only to compete with Dani Carvajal at the moment, but also to eventually replace the Spanish right-back.

Just because things haven’t worked out for the former Liverpool star at the Estadio Bernabéu in the first half of the season doesn’t mean Los Blancos will give up on him.
