In December, Henderson was linked with a return to English football. It wasn’t just any club, it was the “old club” itself. There was therefore great disappointment among the supporters when the Ajax player denied that he would return during the winter transfer window. Over the past week, the situation has changed.
This is what Henderson said when he was linked to Sunderland in December: “It’s my club, ever since I was a boy of six or seven, I was in the stands. But I just hope I stay here [at Ajax]. I really like it here. I want to help the club grow further. I read about it (the link to Sunderland). I don’t even know where all this is coming from, because there has been no contact,” Henderson told the Sunderland Echo.

This month, Sunderland were promoted to the Premier League, for Jordan Henderson this is suddenly a whole new “ball game”.
The Liverpool legend started at Sunderland, after 71 games Liverpool came and persuaded Henderson about Anfield. Sunderland supporters are now hoping for a 72nd game with Henderson.
According to talkSPORT, Sunderland are strongly considering bringing Henderson back to the Stadium of Light. Especially after the 34-year-old reportedly sent signals he is ready to leave Ajax this summer, one year before his contract expires.
