Few if any players have been as reviled as Harry Maguire. Not only at Manchester United, but also in the England national team. The Englishman did not let himself be broken by being degraded by Ten Hag from the captaincy or a lack of confidence from the Dutchman. Now that Ten Hag is gone, Maguire can actually reclaim his leadership role in defence.

Sergio Krithinas, the head of the Portuguese media Record, has followed Amorim’s journey as Sporting coach closely. Now he gives Harry Maguire new hope. Maguire is expected to leave Man United in 2025, but for Krithinas, the boulder of an Englishman could be a very important player at Amorim.

“Harry Maguire is a good example. At Sporting, he (Amorim) had Sebastian Coates until the summer [and] he’s a very tall and big centre-back. As a profile, physical profile, he’s not very different from Harry Maguire,” Krithinas begins on The Transfers Podcast.

-Coates was the team captain of Amorim and a crucial player for him. Not a very fast defender, but he was really, really intelligent with his positioning, he led the team, he defined the offside line and the type of player who didn’t want to be under pressure with the ball. I think that Harry Maguire, if he understands the game the way Amorim wants him, could be the man in the middle of the back three,” says Amorim connoisseur Krithinas.
