In 2019, Manchester United pulled off a record £85 million transfer from Leicester. In came one of Balløya’s best center backs. Five years later, Harry Maguire has been on the pitch for 216 games, and opinions are divided on the 31-year-old’s value to United, to say the least. Maguire himself has never lost either confidence or the conviction that he is the right man in central defence for one of the world’s biggest clubs.
With his contract expiring in the summer and no sign of an extension (United have an option for a further season), many expect Maguire to walk out as a free agent in the summer. Clearer chief scout at Man United, Mick Brown, says there is a lot of interest in the centre-back.

Brown worked for West Ham and strongly recommended the Hammers to sign Maguire.
“I talked about him constantly when I was at West Ham, but they made an offer of £20m for him and it was quickly rejected. There are Premier League clubs that are keeping an eye on the situation,” the former United chief scout told Football-Insider.
“Any club that wants a solid and experienced manager and centre-back will be interested in Harry Maguire. He’s a big threat on set pieces, both in defence and attack, and he’s good on the ball. He was England’s first choice as a centre-back for many years, so he has so much experience,” Brown boasts.
According to the Daily Mail, Harry Maguire is anything but interested in leaving United. The English media claim Maguire is hopeful of a contract extension, probably based on signals he has received after the change of coach.
Ruben Amorim, with his 3-4-3 formation, has a game that is said to give Maguire more opportunity to bring out his strengths. Now the 31-year-old is back from injury and must convince in the coming weeks that he must be taken on.
