When you have to ask the person who knows the most about scoring in the world’s toughest league, you can’t get away from Alan Shearer.
The English football icon spent his entire footballing life on English turf until almost nineteen years ago, when the striker retired. For clubs such as Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle, Shearer scored his way through the seasons of what ended up being the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer. So when Shearer says that there are now three forwards in the Premier League this season who can be called world-class, we get curious.
The statement came on the BBC after watching Newcastle beat Southampton 1-3 with two quick Alexander Isak goals.
-Shall we talk about (Alexander) Isak? Yes, why not! Another fantastic achievement. All about his game… This is so smart. He is in an offside position, but just watch his movement so that he gets to the position where he can receive the pass. He is no longer offside. [Joe] Aribo goes up against him. He forces it, he gets the defender to challenge, and it’s without a doubt a penalty,” Shearer boasts.
Then comes the conclusion, the Swedish international striker has for Shearer moved up to Haaland and Salah class.
“I think there are three world-class forwards in the Premier League now. Haaland is one, Salah is another, and I think Isak has played his way into that company now,” says the all-time leading scorer in Premier League history. Which is convinced Erling Haaland takes his record.
We congratulate the Swede.
