Manchester City will face Real Madrid in what is the most high-profile clash in the Champions League’s last eight.

As last year under the new format, UEFA conducted the draw for the round of eight, quarter-finals and semi-finals on the same day at its headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

There is a lot of English interest left in the tournament, with the presence of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham and Manchester City, meaning that the Premier League has all but secured an extra qualification spot for next season’s Champions League via UEFA’s coefficient.

Given the seeding and pairing system in place, all 16 teams in the draw knew beforehand that they would face one of two potential clubs in the next round.

Liverpool and Tottenham were both in the same section of the play-offs after finishing third and fourth respectively in league play.

Group winner Arsenal was paired with runners-up Bayern Munich, with Manchester City paired with Sporting Lisbon and Chelsea paired with Barcelona.

Newcastle had already been drawn into a section of the play-offs after their play-off win over Qarabag.

Now the draw is complete, and it breathes Chelsea up against reigning Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain, while Newcastle United thus face Barcelona.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, will face Manchester City in what is one of the biggest clashes of the draw. With Norwegian eyes and those who are interested in good football stories, the road ahead for Bodø/Glimt is the most exciting. Bodø/Glimt will not face reigning champion Paris Saint-Germain in a possible final. Chelsea, Galatasaray, Liverpool are the three remaining possible final opponents.

For the round of eight, Bodø/Glimt will face Sporting who are not as impressive after Ruben Amorim was brought to Manchester United over a year ago. It will be a notch worse in the next round where Bodø/Glimt will meet the team that is still in the team of Bayer Leverkusen and Arsenal.

It will be extra fun if Bodø/Glimt meet Atletico Madrid with their star striker Alexander Sørloth in the semi-finals. Possible opponents are Newcastle, Barcelona, Tottenham and the aforementioned Atletico Madrid.
