This summer, goalkeeper Lionel Messi was repeatedly offered to Manchester United. Emi Martinez had grown tired of Aston Villa and was looking for the hottest spotlight in the Premier League as a Man Utd goalkeeper. Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir had made sure that the United supporters held their breath every time the ball approached their own goalkeeper, the veteran Martinez would be the savior. However, the choice fell on a young Belgian. Eight months later, United legend Edwin van der Sar describes Lamme Sennes as the goalkeeper Manchester United will have on the line for many, many years to come.
On Monday, Lammens showed what Man Utd have been missing under Onana. A goalkeeper who is in the right place at the right time, again, again and again during a match. Everton manager David Moyes put his frustration into words by facing Lammens in the United goal.

-The goalkeeper was incredibly good. The save he made against Michael Keane, the way he handled corners… For me, he was the best player on the pitch,” Moyes said, according to Goal.
Edwin Van der Sar is in several awards as the second best goalkeeper in Manchester United history after Schmeichel, the Dutchman stated last week that he sees Lammens as the chosen one.
-He is doing well. Of course, it’s only been seven or eight months, but it certainly looks like he knows the physicality of the Premier League – I see him coming for balls from the penalty spot and he picks them up with confidence, saves when needed, and doesn’t try to save when it’s not necessary. I’m not here from day to day and I don’t watch all the games, but he looks like he’s got a good package with him to be here [at Manchester United] for a long time,” Van der Sar boasted about Lammens.
In Lammens’ debut at Manchester United in 2025, United supporters sang “Are you a Schmeichel in disguise?“. At least the Belgian continues to play as one. We love it!
