On Wednesday, Tottenham lost 3-2 to Bournemouth. With this, the London club that lifted the Europa League trophy this summer is down to 14th place in the Premier League. With 17th place last season, no one says “this can turn around”. After the game, captain Cristian Romero took a stand. Not with manager Thomas Frank, but with the Tottenham management.

This became something anything but internal discussion in the club. Romero is clearly “piss fed up”, the Argentine world champion hammered away at the keyboard in an Instagram message to his supporters.

“Apologies to all you fans, who follow us everywhere, who are always there and who want to continue to be there. We are responsible, there is no doubt about that. I’m the first to say it, but we want to continue to take responsibility and try to turn the situation around – for ourselves and for the club,” the Spurs captain begins.

Then it comes.

“In times like these, there should be others who stepped forward and said something, but they don’t – it’s been like that for several years now. They only show up when things are going well, to lie, writes Romero – with a clear address to the club management.

Which promises the supporters the players will stand up in the face of adversity.

“We stay here, keep working, stick together and give everything to turn things around. Especially in times like these, it’s part of football to keep a low profile, work even harder and move forward together. Together it will be easier, Romero writes.
