The future of Bruno Fernandes has taken a new turn that has Manchester United fans fearing the worst.

More recently, the Manchester United captain has been open about his own future after a disappointing season for United ended with a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, which deprived Ruben Amorim’s men of Champions League football next season.

With United’s difficult financial situation, the former Sporting CP player caused a stir when he said: “If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to make money on a transfer, then that’s how it will be.”

Fernandes – United’s most important player

Fernandes, who joined United in 2020, is the mainstay of the team and arguably their most valuable player.

The Portuguese is the subject of strong interest from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, who want to make him their newest top signing and are willing to offer him a lucrative contract of £65 million annually.

The agent in Riyadh for negotiations

Following reports that Al Hilal gave Fernandes a strict 72-hour deadline to respond to their offer, Fernandes’ agent has been photographed in Riyadh for talks with the club.

According to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, Miguel Pinho had positive discussions with Al Hilal’s management at the Four Seasons hotel while his client was in the Far East for United’s post-season tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong.

How much can Bruno Fernandes earn at Al Hilal?

The talks reportedly went on late into the night, with Al Hilal keen to finalise the deal as soon as possible and get Fernandes ready for the upcoming Club World Cup that they are participating in.

There is also speculation that Al Hilal could sign 30-year-old Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo on loan from Al Nassr for the tournament, and they are said to be willing to pay him an incredible tax-free sum of £700,000 per week.

In total, Fernandes can earn up to £200 million over three years, including bonuses.

Will United accept an offer?

If Fernandes accepts the terms, Al Hilal will make a tempting bid of around £100 million for United.

No official approach has been made yet, but journalist Ben Jacobs claims that “significant progress” has been made over the past two days to make the transition happen.

With a contract until 2027, United want to keep Fernandes, but the next few days will be crucial to clarify his future.
