It is certainly problematic for Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino to quit as manager of the United States before this summer’s World Cup, a contract is a contract, even if all signs point to the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada collapsing because of a mad king.
This is not what the former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain manager had in mind when he took on the task of leading the United States to this summer’s playoffs. – No one thinks it’s fun anymore. In my opinion, you should not have the same thoughts about waiting for a World Cup finals as waiting for a root canal.

Tottenham are in trouble and in second place behind Andoni Iraola, the experts have found Mauricio Pochettino to be a likely replacement for manager Thomas Frank.
If I had been the owner of Tottenham, I would have gone for Mauricio Pochettino, even if it probably meant waiting until the autumn.
They say you should never return, but that may be too tempting in Pochettino’s case, as his time feels like the last time there was genuine agreement at the club.
His successor José Mourinho was not popular with everyone, Nuno Espírito Santo did not last long, Antonio Conte created a similar atmosphere to Mourinho, Ange Postecoglou ran out of excuses, and Thomas Frank has failed to inspire at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Mauricio Pochettino made Spurs a competitive team during his first spell between 2014 and 2019, finishing fifth, third, second, third and fourth in his full seasons as a manager, and he also reached a Champions League final.
The type of football he brought to the club, while navigating some difficult times in the transfer market, made him well-liked in north London until a weak spell early in the 2019-20 season saw him sacked.
Pochettino, who returned to the Premier League with Chelsea for the 2023-24 season, would be interested in a new stay at Spurs.
However, his current role as the United States national team coach means that they will have to wait until after their participation in the World Cup is over before he can start work.
Pochettino did well with Spurs before, but they must be fully convinced that he will be worth the wait.
