Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has discussed a potential move to either Manchester City or Manchester United with his teammates.

The Italian goalkeeper entered the summer transfer window on the back of a heroic season for the French and European champions, where he played a key role in their Champions League triumph and treble.

However, Donnarumma’s long-term future is increasingly uncertain, as the former AC Milan player will become a free player in just over 12 months. PSG are naturally determined to extend Donnarumma’s contract beyond the summer of 2026, but there has been no breakthrough in the negotiations, and Machester United and Manchester City are said to be two of four clubs that are following developments closely.

If no new deal is agreed between the goalkeeper’s representatives and PSG in the coming weeks, the Paris club will be under increasing pressure to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free in 2026.

Donnarumma is “tempted” by the opportunity

Now, French newspaper L’Equipe claims that both Man City and Man United would be “tempting” options for Donnarumma, who is seriously considering a move to the north of England.

The 26-year-old has even mentioned the possibility of such a transfer to his teammates, after apparently being dissatisfied with PSG’s latest contract offer.

PSG football advisor Luis Campos is reportedly trying to reduce Donnarumma’s base salary and include more performance-based bonuses that could increase his salary, and the club could make a more convincing offer to their first-choice goalkeeper.

Donnarumma was as taciturn as possible when asked about his future during national team assignments for Italy, telling reporters: “I don’t know yet what will happen, I haven’t decided anything.”

“At the moment, I want to focus on the matches with the national team, and nothing else. The situation at the club I will discuss in the coming days with the management and my team. At the moment, it’s still too early.”

Donnarumma has kept 51 clean sheets in 154 appearances for PSG in all competitions since joining on a free transfer from AC Milan in the summer of 2021, having played over 250 games for the Rossoneri.

While Man United also have many other priorities on the pitch and limited funds to deal with it, Ruben Amorim is not expected to stand in the way of Andre Onana leaving if the right opportunity arises.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper is now reportedly in advanced discussions with a Saudi Pro League club, and his replacement – Altay Bayindir – has struggled to prove himself a first-team goalkeeper when given the chance.

Meanwhile, Man City coach Pep Guardiola has recently confirmed that both Ederson and Stefan Ortega “must stay” at the Etihad for the 2025-26 season, which apparently dampens the chances of the club bringing in a new goalkeeper.

Porto’s Diogo Costa and Espanyol’s Joan Garcia were also tipped to sign for the Sky Blues this summer, but the latter will soon be presented as Barcelona’s new goalkeeper.
