Unted boss Ratcliffe described Dan Ashworth as one of the best sporting directors in the world. Five months later, the 53-year-old was not good enough for Manchester United. Ratcliffe has already realized the mistake after Ashworth’s first three months on the job.
According to The Athletic, Ashworth surprised the United boss when he was consulted about a Ten Hag replacement. Marco Silva, Thomas Frank, Graham Potter and Gareth Soutghate were listed, but Ratcliffe wanted someone with charisma and backbone to carry the enormous responsibility of managing Man United.

It was CEO Omar Berrada who ran the process with Ruben Amorim, Ashworth is said to have been no contribution. When Ashworth took a vacation on Amorim’s second day at work at Carrington (had an important family event postponed), Ratcliffe realized that working with “one of the world’s best sporting directors” was impossible.
