At the end of November, manager Tim Walter was sent straight out after a miserable start to the season at Hull City. Now the club stands with 15 points from 18 league games, even behind Wayne Rooney and Plymouth. On Friday, the man who will lift the Hull players emerged from the awkward relegation battle.

“We are happy to have secured our first choice. Ruben’s ambitions match ours. His passion and enthusiasm shone through in our meetings, and we share the same ideas about how football should be played. There was a lot of interest in the job, but Ruben stood out with his football philosophy, his ability to develop players, his attention to detail and his extensive coaching experience,” Hull boss Acun Ilıcalı told the club’s website.
