AS writes: “This could be Xabi Alonso’s last game as Real Madrid manager”

Tonight, the Merengue family travels to Vitoria to face Alavés – a must-win match. Especially after FC Barcelona, who defeated Osasuna on Saturday night, have gained a seven-point lead at the top of the La Liga table. A result other than victory will have serious consequences, both for the title race and for the future of the former midfielder who now sits on the coaching bench.

Within Real Madrid, however, there is an understanding that Alonso cannot be blamed alone for the team’s crisis, which has only won two of its last eight games. Many observers and also the management of the club agree that the composition of the squad may not be optimal, and that a clean-up is needed in the summer.

Valuable assets
According to Defensa Central, the Spanish giants are preparing to sell eight players in the summer transfer window. These are either players who are not up to scratch, or players who are not absolutely essential and can bring in significant sums of money.

On the list we first find Andrij Lunin, the backup goalkeeper, as well as full-backs Ferland Mendy and Fran García – the latter blocked by Álvaro Carreras. Dani Ceballos and Brahim Díaz will also be made available.

More surprising is that the pro-Real Madrid media reports that Eduardo Camavinga is also considered to be sellable.

In attack, Gonzalo García and – not unexpectedly – Rodrygo Goes will be available for transfers. These players are expected to bring in large transfer fees, which could give the club significant financial muscle.

In addition to these eight, players who are nearing the end of their contracts must be expected, such as David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger – two players with very uncertain futures. The case of Vinícius Jr., who still makes headlines daily, is also a separate chapter.
