The English Sean Dyche made it clear when he took over from Posteceglou as Nottingham Forest manager, that he was not like these “fashionista coaches”, who were so in love with their type of football and should play right and beautiful at all costs. For Dyche, the Premier League is about the coach and players adapting to the opponent, and winning at all costs. Dyche also stated that he was convinced he could win more games as Manhcester United manager than Ruben Amorim. After watching Michael Carrick sink city rivals City in his first game as interim manager, Dyche’s words come back.
U18 coach Darren Fletcher did the best he could as a substitute after Amorim was sacked, but a 2-2 draw against Burnley and a loss to Brighton in the FA Cup at Old Trafford didn’t exactly give the United players a boost. Then Michael Carrick entered the training ground at Carrington on Tuesday, four days later the 2-0 victory over City.

Patrick Dorgu was behind Man United’s second goal, after slipping in between three City defenders. The 21-year-old explains what has happened with Carrick in place as coach.

The plan before the game was clear. All the players understood their task.
“It hasn’t really changed, but it’s just the intensity and the way he wants us to play. He just wants us to think ahead all the time, and you could see that here,” Dorgu continues.
Intensity and offensive mentality.
“It’s not about changes, but about the mentality as a group,” says Dorgu.
Mentality.

Okay. Then we are left with Carrick’s main focus on getting United on the winning track. Nothing fancy, just what Michael Carrick knows MUST be done to win games in the world’s toughest league. Pep Guardiola and the City players were not prepared for the “new” United without Amorim.
