Not so long ago, Bild described Nico Schlotterbeck as follows: “Nico Slochlitterbeck is the only one in the Bundesliga who can actually stop a locomotive at full speed” – Qualities that a number of clubs appreciate.

During the spring, big clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool have been reported to be looking for Nico Schlotterbeck, whose previous deal with Dortmund expired in 2027.

The 26-year-old joined Borusia Dortmund from Freiburg in the summer of 2022 for €20 million.

But now the German big club announces that there will be no transfer. The centre-back’s contract has been extended until 2031.

“The contract extension with Nico Schlotterbeck is of enormous importance. He is of great value to us, both as a player and as a person. And Nico, on the other hand, knows exactly what he has at our club. He is highly appreciated, and he feels that we are building something here. Therefore, we are very happy that we were able to extend his contract, which was due to expire next year, at an early stage,” said the club’s CEO Carsten Cramer in a statement.

“I am incredibly happy to have extended my contract with BVB. I deliberately took my time with the decision because it is important to me. We had good discussions all the way, but it wasn’t a process that was completed in just one or two weeks,” Schlotterbeck told the club’s website.

The 26-year-old joined Dortmund from Freiburg in 2022. This season, he has made 31 appearances for the club.

The centre-back has 25 caps for Germany.
