RB Leipzig confirms: Marco Rose is done as a man

RB Leipzig have officially confirmed that Marco Rose is no longer the club’s manager. Thus, the Norwegian national team star Antonio Nusa will have to adapt to a new manager after only a few months at the club.

Rose, who took over Leipzig in 2022, will now end his stay after a disappointing start to the season. The club currently sits in 6th place in the Bundesliga, which falls short of expectations for a team with Champions League ambitions.

Marcel Schäfer, Managing Director of Sports says on RB Leipzig’s pages: “We believed in the constellation with Marco and his team for a very long time and tried everything until the very end to turn things around. However, given the current situation and the lack of results, we firmly believe that we need a new impetus for the remaining games to reach our season goals. We would like to thank Marco and his coaching staff for the last two years, and his coaching staff for the last two years, and they have been a success.”

Marco Rose took over RB Leipzig in a difficult situation at the beginning of September 2022 and led him back to success. He was on the sidelines for 125 games. Under his leadership, the team successfully qualified for the UEFA Champions League twice and won the DFB Cup for the second time in the club’s history and the Super Cup for the first time in 2023. The club will soon announce who will coach the team until the end of the season.

What does this mean for Antonio Nusa?

Nusa, who was signed from Club Brugge in the summer, has played 21 league games for Leipzig, but has been out with injury in recent weeks. Now he is waiting to return – but then under the leadership of a new manager.

The club has not yet revealed who will take over, but the speculation has already started. Among the candidates in question are former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann, as well as Oliver Glasner, who previously worked with Leipzig’s sporting director Rouven Schröder.

RB Leipzig thanks Rose for his efforts, but stresses that they need a new direction to achieve their goals for the season.

We are grateful for Marco Rose’s work, but after a joint assessment, we have decided that a change is necessary to achieve our ambitions,” says sporting director Schröder.
