Real Madrid are in the process of completing the signing of Benfica full-back Álvaro Carreras.
Los Blancos are picking up the pace of their summer transfer business after securing the arrival of Xabi Alonso as their new head coach. The former midfielder laid out his clear summer plans during the negotiations for his appointment, and Real Madrid act accordingly.

Alonso stressed that he wanted a new centre-back, and the Spanish giants acted quickly to secure a deal with Bournemouth’s great talent Dean Huijsen.
The 20-year-old’s €60 million transfer was officially confirmed on Saturday morning, with Huijsen signing a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabéu. But Real Madrid are not done yet.
Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is also expected to join Alonso’s squad this summer, and he will arrive on a free transfer, although his transfer has not yet been officially announced.
In addition to this pair of Premier League stars, Real Madrid are now also in the process of securing a third signing in the form of Benfica full-back Álvaro Carreras.
The former Manchester United defender, who also previously spent time in Los Blancos’ academy, has long been linked with a return to Madrid, and it now seems to be taking shape.
According to AS, his signing is “90 percent complete” according to Real Madrid’s assessment. Although it is described as a “complex transition,” it is understood that the agreement is progressing at a “good pace.”
There is still some uncertainty about how exactly Real Madrid will sign him. The aforementioned media outlet is sticking to its previous reporting that Manchester United will bring him back for €18 million and then resell him to Los Blancos for €35 million.
However, it has been claimed that such a “bridge crossing” would violate FIFA’s rules. Other Spanish media outlets are therefore reporting that Real Madrid will simply match Benfica’s demands, which are believed to be in the region of €50-60 million.
