In the winter of 2024, a strange game unfolded between Newcastle and Manchester United. United boss Ratcliffe was supposed to gather the best people, regardless of whether they were employed by a Premier League rival. Sporting director Dan Ashworth at Newcastle was the target, Ashworth played with, and was immediately sent on gardening leave by the Newcastle management. United bought the sporting director free after much trouble, 159 days later Ashworth was given a few million pounds for not continuing as United’s sporting director. Now the clubs are starting a new game.

This time it is Newcastle who are on a potential prey at Manchester United. The club needs a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), according to The Telegraph, United’s Chief Operating Officer (CEO), Collette Roche, is one of the candidates for the position.

What is special is that Ashworth’s exit at Old Trafford gave Roche an expanded role and more active in the football business. Roche has been instrumental in the upgrade of United’s training facility at Carrington, plus a leading role in the planning of United’s new stadium project.

Newcastle now have the United director on the block, as a thank you for the last time to Ratcliffe.
