The Cole Palmer case is like an open wound for the City management and Pep Guardiola. Academy player Palmer did not accept Guardiola’s dosage of playing time and pushed for an exit to Chelsea for £40 million. In his debut season at the London club, young Palmer was outstanding with 22 goals, 11 assists in 34 Premier League games. Less than two years later, the 22-year-old has a market value of 130 million euros. Now Chelsea have been back to City to run the same scheme, this time the Manchester club did not want to be fooled.

19-year-old Nico O’Reilly is banging on the first-team door at Manchester City, but has only got game time in six games (1 goal). The Athletic reports that the attacking midfielder has received a lot of interest from Chelsea, who have tried to buy the player. The English media claims Manchester City rejected the approach when it became clear Chelsea would not accept a clause.

City have learned with Palmer and demanded a buy-back clause for O’Reilly, which Chelsea were of course not interested in.
