Barcelona are still struggling as a result of Paris Saint-Germain’s world-record €222 million purchase of Neymar in the summer of 2017.
The sale of Neymar was the start of a monetary solution unprecedented in football history. Among other things, in desperation, they bought Ousmane Dembélé from Borussia Dortmund for an overpriced 135 million euros and jacked up everyone’s wages in fear that the French big club would “steal” more players. (and coaches, scouts etc etc) After a few wild years, the debt jumped to over 1 billion euros, a debt they struggle with to this day. – Right now, they are struggling to sign up European Championship star Dani Olmo to play in La Liga.
Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are “friends” again! – This time, the approach and money to the French big club is more than friendly.
The 21-year-old left-back Alejandro Balde has spent much of his football upbringing in Barcelona. He joined the academy in 2011 – then eight years old – and in 2021 he joined the first team. Since then, there have been 101 games in the Catalan club for Balde. – Transfermarkt believes he is worth 50 million euros, a sum that PSG should be willing to top.
After a long injury period last season, he has this season been given the left-back spot at Barcelona – but now he could be on his way out.
Transfer journalist Matteo Moretto writes that Paris Saint-Germain have their eyes on Balde, as first choice Nunu Mendes is on his way out. And PSG have specifically identified Alejandro Balde as United’s rumoured Mendes replacement. So far, however, no contact has been made.
Balde’s contract with Barcelona comes to an end in the summer of 2028.
