The 51-year-old Danish manager Thomas Frank replaces Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked last week despite leading Tottenham to the club’s first trophy in 17 years with a victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Thomas Frank’s great strength must be that despite being very committed, he does not let himself be stressed by anything. When asked what his goals are, he is always the answer. “Do a good job and things can happen”.

Tottenham stated that Frank’s contract runs until 2028.

“In Thomas, we get one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches in the world of football,” the club stated. “He has a proven ability to develop players and squads, and we look forward to him leading our team in preparation for the upcoming season.”

Frank joined Brentford in December 2016 and took over as manager in 2018. He has built a reputation as a tactically flexible and wise coach who has improved players, especially players with lower profiles or who have not performed at other clubs.

At Tottenham, he will have a squad of higher quality – albeit one that finished below Brentford in the Premier League table last year – and he will lead a team in the Champions League for the first time.

In that sense, this represents a small risk for Spurs. Frank has never won a trophy in his coaching career.

However, having had Antonio Conte and José Mourinho at the helm for periods since 2019, even coaches with top-level experience have struggled to lead Tottenham to success. Frank at least has extensive Premier League experience.

Brentford have been playing in the top division since 2021 and have consistently performed above expectations.

Tottenham stated that Frank will bring several of his closest associates from Brentford, including assistant coach Justin Cochrane. Set-play specialist Andreas Georgson also comes to the club, from Manchester United.
