In 2024, Werder Bremen brought in a German teenager from Hamburger SV’s U19 team for free. Few got to see this beyond Bremen, the first professional contract was signed in July 2025. Nine months later, Karim Coulibaly is on the wish list of five of the biggest clubs in the world.

Coulibaly is 18 years young, but the young German can already pick and choose between several big clubs. The centre-back has made 22 appearances for Werder Bremen in his debut season, as well as making his mark on the German U21 national team.

According to Sky Sports, Coulibaly is being closely followed by Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle, PSG and Napoli, with Chelsea in particular reportedly being particularly active. The London club has already contacted the player’s representatives.

The Werder Bremen management understands what a jewel they are sitting on, now a bid of €50 million is expected this summer, a price that will shatter the club’s transfer record.
