Tottenham could try to reunite Mauricio Pochettino with one of the players who flourished under him at Chelsea if they make the Argentine their new manager in the summer.
Spurs will look to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window to give the new permanent manager – whoever it may be – the tools needed to succeed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A 17th-place finish last season looks set to be followed by a disappointing finish this year as well, unless interim manager Igor Tudor can reverse the trend in the final 12 games of the season. On Sunday, Tudor will get his act together, when Tottenham will host Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Nicolas Jackson was Mauricio Pochettino’s main striker at Chelsea
Pochettino is one of the favourites to take the job on a permanent basis and return to the place where he spent five years between 2014 and 2019, leading Spurs to the aggregate contender for the Premier League title for two consecutive seasons and to the UEFA Champions League final. He and Roberto De Zerbi are the two leading candidates to take over the helm in the summer.
And if he returns to N17, Spurs could reunite him with Nicolas Jackson, who the Argentine had as his main striker during his one-year stay at Chelsea.
Jackson is still a Chelsea player, but has spent this season on loan at Bayern Munich, having fallen through the ranks of then-boss Enzo Maresca.
New manager Liam Rosenior will be keen to take a closer look at the ‘incredible’ 24-year-old in the summer pre-season, but if he is still out in the cold, he could try to make a permanent transfer.
There was an obligation for the German champion to buy the striker for £70.5 million at the end of his loan spell, but this was conditional on the striker reaching a certain number of games, which does not seem to be happening. He has played 15 Bundesliga games – just five from the start – and scored three goals.
Tottenham follow Nicolas Jackson’s transfer situation
Spurs have been linked with Jackson in the past and have been keeping an eye on his situation, with reports that they are keen to strike if the Blues are willing to approve a permanent sale of the Senegalese.
Jackson actually set his Premier League career on fire against Tottenham when he scored a hat-trick in the infamous 4-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where then Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou played with an insanely high defensive line despite having two players sent off.
The Chelsea striker would then finish the 2023/24 season with 17 goals and six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, with one assist in every other game he played.
He was criticised by Pochettino for his indiscipline, with five yellow cards in his first six games in England, but the Argentine praised his hard work after arriving in the Premier League as a 22-year-old.
Mauricio Pochettino loved working with Nicolas Jackson
Pochettino said at the time: “Nico is 22 years old, he has arrived from another country and another league and everyone has put the responsibility of scoring goals on him.
“For me, he’s doing fantastic. I really appreciate his efforts. He is very tough and plays football with maturity in the way he accepts and handles the pressure. You can see a player who fights, runs, and wants the ball even when he has asked for the ball and made a mistake.
“He never gives up. He scores goals. If we look at him in his first season here in England, I think he’s doing well. Better maybe than people think – much better.”
