The prelude to what a few seasons ago would have been described as a big game, was 2000 Spurs supporters marching in protest towards the stadium. A celebration that “Enough is enough” after 24 years with 16 coaches and 1 title. For Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amorim, it was only about ninety minutes of dogfights for the crucial three points. The Australian ran away with the entire points pool.

Manchester United had plenty of big chances, but it was James Maddison who took advantage of a rebound from Andre Onana to set up the only goal of the game.

Amorim fielded a team plagued by injuries, after the game Postecoglou was asked if he had sympathy for the United manager’s situation. The Australian, who himself has had large parts of the first eleven out with injury throughout the season, had to check if the journalist was joking, before answering:

-If I check my office, I have no sympathy cards from other managers, so it has not happened. I could see Ruben there, players out of position, youngsters on the bench. Well, welcome to my world. But it is for a match. Do it now for two months. Do it for two months, all clubs. Do it for two months. I thought Man United were good today, considering all that, and we had our days when we were good, we beat Liverpool in this period. Do it (with injuries) for two months,” the Spurs manager replied according to Football-London.

Sorry, Ruben, no compassion to be found there.
