On Wednesday, at lunchtime in London, the confirmation came from Tottenham. Thomas Frank is done as Spurs manager. The Dane cheerfully stated when he signed last summer, that “I have never been fired from a coaching job”. On Wednesday, the first one came. Now things are boiling in the back room at Tottenham, where three or four different scenarios need to be analysed.

According to Caughtoffside , newly signed assistant coach, Jonny Heitinga (formerly Liverpool), is a natural choice to lead the Spurs ship for the rest of the season, but former Spurs substitute Ryan Mason, who has led Tottenham for two rounds as a substitute, was recently sacked at West Brom after a failed spell at the Hawthorns. Mason is also ready to return to the club, even temporarily.

On the night of Wednesday, another alternative came. Roberto de Zerbi was done at Marseille a few hours before Frank was sacked, the Italian is considered the second biggest favourite for the Spurs job, after Mauricio Pochettino who will be available after the World Cup finals this summer.

It remains to be seen whether de Zerbi will immediately return to work, or if he would rather consider his options in the summer. If Tottenham chooses De Zerbi and he accepts, offers to supporter favourite Pochettino disappear.

Tick-thanks, on Sunday Arsenal travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
