Spurs are in urgent need of strengthening their attacking department after Son Heung-Min has left the club and James Maddison has suffered a cruciate ligament injury.
The London club made a concrete attempt to sign Eberechi Eze, but he chose to go to Arsenal instead. Tottenham also failed in their attempt to sign Nico Paz from Como, and they could miss out on Piero Hincapie, who is also reportedly being chased by Arsenal.
The Telegraph reports that Spurs began discussions about signing Xavi Simons from Leipzig.
Chelsea have been in talks with the 22-year-old striker in recent weeks, but they have not been able to reach an agreement. Manager Enzo Maresca will need to find new clubs for players like Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku before they can continue with the potential signings of Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.
The report claims that there is optimism that Simons could move to north London, despite his apparent interest in joining Chelsea. After missing out on so many goalkeepers, they are desperate to secure at least one new attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea have recently been linked with a move for Barcelona striker Fermin Lopez, and that could open the door for Spurs to take the lead in the race for Simons.
