When Tottenham brought in John Heitinga, Slot’s former assistant coach at Liverpool in mid-January, there were many who had second thoughts. The Dutchman was supposed to help strengthen Spurs’ defender, but at the same time seemed like a potential substitute – if Thomas Frank continued on course to be sacked. Heitinga came, Tottenham continued to lose in the Premier League, Frank disappeared, but Heitinga was passed over. On Saturday, Igor signed Tudor as head coach for the rest of the season. With that in place, there is excitement about what happens around the next corner, when the permanent head coach is to be patted into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A German should already be well placed, high up on the list of candidates.

Erling Haaland knows Marco Rose particularly well. Both at RB Salzburg and at Borussia Dortmund, Haaland had Rose as coach.

Marco Rose hasn’t quite found his place after leaving Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 and Gladback in 2021. The German coach has stayed in the Bundesliga, having managed both the big clubs Dortmund (1 year) and RB Leipzig (2.5 years). Since March 2025, Rose has been without a coaching job. It is Rose’s type of coach that has aroused Tottenham’s interest, it is reported.

According to Caughtoffside’s sources “close to the agent business”, Marco Rose stands as an early, strong candidate for the Spurs job, where his name has surfaced in “internal discussions behind the scenes”. The German tactician has long been highly regarded in the industry, and an appointment would be relatively uncomplicated due to the fact that he is currently unemployed.

“Marco Rose’s name has been mentioned, he’s a profile Tottenham really like,” a source said. His philosophy of aggressive pressure and tactical discipline is seen by the Tottenham hierarchy as exactly the profile needed to quickly stabilize the squad, reports the English media.
