Ange Postecoglou must win the Europa League to save some of Tottenham’s season. The Australian has cheerfully stated that he “always wins a title in his second season”. Now the Europa League remains as the only opportunity to fulfill this self-proclaimed football prophecy. Without an EL title, prize pool and Champions League ticket, the London club is heading for a potentially tough transfer market. One of the possibilities is a free agent who Tottenham management removed from their long-term plans in 2020.

He worked his way up the ranks at Tottenham’s academy, being brought up to the first team by Mauricio Pochettino in the 2017/18 season. At the end of the year, the right-back signed a five-year contract with the youth club. Then Pochettino disappeared, just months after leading Tottenham to a historic Champions League final. In 2020, Kyle Walker-Peters was sent on loan to Southampton, no longer part of the London club’s long-term plan. Five years later, some have realized this was a mistake.

Walker-Peters made a permanent move to Southampton before the 2020/21 season, and has made big strides in his development, steps he didn’t get at Tottenham. With his contract expiring in the summer, Tottenham are reported to be very interested in tempting the English player (two caps) back to London.

According to Caughtoffside’s “sources close to the situation”, Spurs have shown a lot of interest in Walker-Peters ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old has several suitors at the door. Chelsea, West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace. The English media believes Walker-Peters could be triggered by the opportunity to return to Tottenham and “prove them wrong”.
